Children everywhere…
Roaming the streets…
Little babes to teenagers…
Some have homes…
Others scourge for food in the waste left behind…
Loads have holes in their clothes…
I look at them and wonder:

What good am I to you?

Some just want you to smile & scream hello back at them-
These just want to be seen, be noticed, be accepted

Some run up & want to shake your hand or give you a hug-
These want to feel loved, maybe for the first or only time in their life

Some see you as a means to an end, they ask for money, for soda, for water-
These are already hardened by the world & want to have just a bit of what we think of as pocket change

As I prepare for the next two months in Africa
where the number of children I see will grow,
where the problems they encounter will get harder and harder to grasp,
I pray for a wellspring of hope to pour out of my face,
for an outpouring of love to flow from my arms,
and for a heart constantly connected to God so that I can see them as He does.

“People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.  When Jesus saw this, he was indignant.  He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”  And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.”  Mark 10: 13-16
