Sometimes you need to step on that wobbly rock when crossing a stream. Sometimes you’ll lose balance and you might slip into the water. Other times, the rock will stay firm, firmer than you’ll expect it to be and you’ll be able to move onto the next rock. The next stepping stone in your life. But what if that wobbly rock leads you to see another path you can take? A harder, more wobbly one, but the rocks across the stream lead you to a prettier sight than you could’ve ever imagined.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot with my life. What would I choose? A path with security? Or a path that is different from what I lay my life out to be, but is greater than anything I’ve ever imagined?
Never in a million years would I have pictured myself living outside in a tent (now day 54), learning how to minister to people who live in different cultures than I, and taking this leap of faith to follow Jesus. Before training camp, I’d never gone camping. I’d take 2 showers a day to make sure I was clean, I wouldn’t dare risk getting dirty. And man, I’d have ice cream. Every night. But I’ve had to surrender that to put myself in preparation for the missions field. Is it worth it?
YES!!!
I’m learning I CAN live without such things. Jesus is always present, even when ice-cream isn’t. I feel homesick and miss the comforts of my bed but I am reminded of Jesus. Jesus is my home. He is my refuge and I will reside in Him.
“God is our refuge and strength,
always ready to help in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1
Jesus calls us ALL to go and make disciples. For some of us, it is within churches, maybe the grocery store, school, even our own home (sometimes are places that need the most love), and for some, Jesus calls to the nations. But that does not make the ones who were called to do missions abroad any better than someone who is planting seeds in people in their very own home who need Jesus. We are ALL called, and the way, shape, and form will just look different.
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20
When the Bible refers to “all nations” it isn’t referencing geopolitical boundaries, but all people, all people groups. You do not need to be ON MISSION to make disciples. Just because I’m going to build relationships outside of my home in different countries, it does not make higher in God’s eyes than the person reading this. Jesus loves each and every one of His children. All God asks from us is a YES! Whether that YES might be a tug on your heart from the Holy Spirit urging you to go talk to some random lady in target and pray for her? Or inviting a neighbor to church with you? Or maybe even camping for 3.5 months and giving up ice cream in preparation for the missions field. I said YES to the plan He has for me. And I continue saying YES each and everyday.
Wishing y’all joy and sunshine,
Lacie Fay
