Hey guys!
My name is Maddy Hammer and I love ADVENTURE! Sitting quietly in front of the tv is not for me! (Unless of course, it is a cold and rainy day and the fireplace is raging hot and I’m covered in a cozy blanket! Just needed to clarify!) But seriously, l am passionate about life and I want to experience everything about it! I love eating new kinds of food, I love seeing new places, I love meeting new people and I love experiencing things that I’ve never tried before! If I see a mountain, I don’t want to just look at it from a distance – I want to touch it, get out and hike it! I guess you could say that I was somewhat born into this life of adventure, because I was born into a traveling family, that did Family Conferences in churches all across America and Canada. I was constantly arriving in new cities and towns, walking into new places and new classrooms and meeting people I had never known before. I guess that’s when traveling got in my blood, and the courage to do new things!
When I first heard about the World Race, I bought a key necklace from a youth sponsor at my church who was planning on going on the race. I ended up trying to help him raise money by selling keys to my friends as well. I had no idea at the time that I would end up pursuing this experience as well! But I’m READY!
I am now in my senior year of high school! I’ve looked at and visited A LOT of colleges and just never felt right about any of them! I had no idea what I or more importantly what God wanted to do with my future or what major I wanted to study. All I knew was I have this passion for people, God and to travel the world making an impact, somehow, someway!
The world race gives gives me an even greater opportunity to take a whole year and journey with God, and let him speak into my life, before I spend time, money, and precious years studying something I’m not completely sure about! The world race: Gap year is a 9 month missions trip that travels to 3 diverse countries! I will be going to the Balkans, Philippines, and South Africa! (I know so cool) What I love about this trip is I will be in each country for a whole 3 months which gives me the opportunity to create lasting relationships with people I will encounter and gain extraordinary life experiences which will help launch me towards what God has called me to! As a believer I am called to actively spread God’s words and love to people of all nations and I couldn’t be more excited about it!
