I’ve been asked a lot why I chose to do a gap year, so I figured I would lay it all out for everyone here!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the idea of taking a gap year, traveling the world, helping other people, and sharing the love of Christ! When I got to high school, I just got caught up in all the college stuff — applications, decisions, scholarships, etc. I had already applied, been accepted, and committed to going to UNCW in the fall with the intention of majoring in elementary education. I had completely forgot about my desire to take a gap year!

It wasn’t until about three weeks ago that my mom brought it back up. She asked, “Maddie, have you thought any more about taking a gap year?” I was completely FLABBERGASTED by this question because it seemed to have come out of no where. But the more I prayed about it, the more I felt that this was an opportunity the Lord was giving me that I couldn’t pass up. So I turned in my application, got accepted, and now here we are! I could not be more excited about this trip and the amazing adventures that wait for me.
I went on my first mission trip EVER this past summer to Costa Rica with a group from my school, and it was such an inspiringexperience. We were only there for ten days, but seeing the impact we made on the local community, how our team had grown closer together, and how the Lord had moved in everyone’s lives was something I’ll never forget. I figured that if those ten days had made such a difference in people’s lives, nine months would be even more amazing!

So my decision to be a part of the world race gap year program has all taken place within about the last few weeks. God is already working wonders and I can’t wait to see what more He’ll do on this trip!
So thanks for tuning in to a little bit of my story, and I appreciate all of the prayers and support!
