hey folks! so i found this blog i had written back in february when we were in guatemala, but i figured i could still post it now. better late than never, right? 🙂
spiritual truth is something that i’ve learned a lot about in guatemala. speaking life over not just other people, but myself, is way way WAY more powerful than i thought it was. if i’m listening to something that’s not from God or doesn’t line up with what he says, i don’t want a part of it!
i wanted to post some spiritual truth that’s backed up with scripture for y’all bc it’s helped me go deeper into my identity in Christ and i want you guys to be able to have that, too!!
you don’t have to be perfect. “for sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.” romans 6:14
you have potential. “your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book where write every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” psalm 139:16
you are worthy. you don’t have to try to prove it. “it does not, therefore, depend on man desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” romans 9:16
you are unashamed. there is no mess that God can’t forgive or redeem. “when one of the pharisees invited jJesus to have dinner with him, he went to the pharisee’s hose and reclined at the table. a woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. as she stood behind him at hs feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. when the pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, ‘if this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is — that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “simon, i have something to tell you.’ ‘tell me, teacher,’ he said. ‘two people owed money to a certain moneylender. one owed him five hundred denarius and the other fifty. neither of them had the money to pay him back, some forgave the debts of both. now which of them will love him are?’ simon replied, ‘i suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.’ ‘you have judged correctly,’ Jesus said. then he turned toward the woman and said to simon, ‘do you see this? i came into your house. you did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. you did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time i entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. therefore, i tell you, her many sins have been forgiven — as her great love has shown. but whoever has been forgiven little loves little.’ then jesus said to her, ‘your sins are forgiven.’ the other guests began to say among themselves, ‘who is this who even forgives sins?’ Jesus said to the woman, ‘your faith has saved you; go in peace.’” luke 7:36-50
“you, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in love to all you call to you.” psalm 86:5
you can be & do it. “i am not saying this because i am in need, for i have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. i know what it is to be in need, and i know what it is to have plenty. i have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, living in plenty or in want, i can do all things through him.” philippians 4:12-13
God is the ultimate comfort. “may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hopes encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.” 2 thessalonians 2:16-17
God makes you whole. “‘my son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything i have is yours. but we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” luke 15:31-32
“i have been crucified with Christ and i no longer live, but Christ lives in me. the life i now live in the body, i live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” galatians 2:20
God protects, hears, and is close to his children. “the Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. he fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. the Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.” psalm 145:18-20
you are beautiful and pleasing. you are clean. “how beautiful you are and how pleasing, my love, with your delights!” song of songs 7:6
you are redeemed. “do not fear, for i have redeemed you. i have called you by your name, you are mine. i will be with you.” isaiah 43:1
you are renewed. “for you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life haded down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 peter 1:18-19
you are valued. “before i formed you in the womb, i knew you, before you were born i set you apart.” jeremiah 1:5
your voice matters. “prophesy over these bones and say to them, o dry bones, hear the word of the Lord . . . so i prophesied as i wa commanded and as i prophesied, there was a sound and behold a rattling and the bones came together.” ezekiel 37:4, 7
you are beautiful. “your voice is sweet, your face is lovely.” song of songs 2:14
you are forgiven. “i desire mercy, not sacrifice.” hosea 6:6
you are victorious. “God’s word remains in you, and you have conquered the evil one.” 1 john 2:14
you are God’s favorite. “everyone who is called by my name, whom i created for my glory, whom i formed and made.” isaiah 43:7
you are valuable. if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted then shall your light rise in the darkness and your groom be as the noonday and the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” isaiah 58:10-11
you are here to help, what you do matters. you matter. “so dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” 1 corinthians 15:58
you’re not too quiet. “and when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.” acts 4:31
God understands you. “surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.” psalm 51:6
you are a leader. “but Moses said to God, ‘who am i that i should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of israel out of egypt?’ he said, ‘but i will be with you and this shall be a sign for you, that i have sent you: when you have brought the people out of egypt you will serve God on this mountain.’” exodus 3:11-12
you are not less than. you are enough. “charm is deceitful and beautify is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” proverbs 31:30
you are unforgettable. “can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? though she may forget, i will not forget you!” isaiah 49:15
something that i realized that i do is look down on myself and just call it humility. like “oh, i’m not pretty” or “oh, i’m not smart.” but no! that’s not humility! that’s just straight up lies! because God, the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, the KING OF KINGS, the same God who made the sun and stars and aaaaaallllll of creation says that i am beautiful! me! beautiful! like WHAT! i mean that’s pretty cool.
as a culture i definitely think we need to normalize and praise people being confident in themselves. it’s so incredibly important!
anyways. that was my lil soap box shpeal. 🙂 i want to encourage y’all to ask God who he says you are. i promise you’ll be surprised and overwhelmed in the best way by what he says. and please drop some more truth in the comments! i’d love to read them!
oh and another lil sidenote. i’ve realized how reading these is one thing, but it’s a WHOLE new ball game to actually believe it. that’s where it gets tough. but it’s nothing some conversation with the Lord can’t help with!
okay. i love you all. i know this blog kinda all over the place (what’s new haha) but i really hope you were able to get something out of it! thanks for reading<3
until next time, maddie
