Now here’s a little about glory to glory!

2 Corinthians 3:18 “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Some translations say “being transformed from glory to glory.”

Glory to glory? What does that even mean?

I used to think it meant something like “from one mountaintop to another.” But that’s not quite right.

It’s living being constantly transformed to look more like what we were created to be. To look more like Jesus.

Here’s some context of the verse::

When Paul wrote this verse in 2 Corinthians, he used the same greek word for “glory,” but to mean two different things. He’s talking about the old covenant, the Law of Moses and the New Covenant, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Old Covenant was given to Moses directly from God. On a stone. Written by God’s own finger (Exodus 31). The Law was firm and strict and inflexible. Yes, the Law is good, but for us imperfect people, it kills us. “Follow the law or die.” Basically. Pretty intense. That’s why in the Old Testament there were so many sacrifices, something/someone had to pay for the sins people made!

Well how did the Old Covenant leave and the New Covenant come in? Jesus came. Jesus fulfilled the Old Covenant. A perfect and blameless man who willingly took on aaaaallllll of the punishment for aaaaalllllll of our sins and mistakes and screw ups. Every single sin for every single person. That’s a lot to carry, but He did it JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU THAT MUCH!!!! He paid the price for it so we don’t have to. That was really kind of Him.

We all know John 3:16, “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life.”

So now we’re being invited into a New Covenant. One that introduces forgiveness and gentle conviction and a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Now our obedience to God can come from passion and love and God-given desires instead of fear of punishment.

This New Covenant is one of relationship and intimacy and fellowship with our loving heavenly Father. God has made His home in us. He delights in being with us.

So with this New Covenant I don’t have to strive. I don’t have to do “good things” just because that’s what I feel like we’re expected to do or because I don’t want to suffer the consequences of doing otherwise. I have the freedom to rest in how He calls me His beloved and loves me not because of what I do for Him. I’m gonna say that again. WHAT I DO DOESN’T DETERMINE HOW LOVED I AM BY MY HEAVENLY FATHER. He calls me a daughter, not a slave. He didn’t make me to serve Him, He made me to have a relationship with me. I was made by Him, for Him. And I can walk with joy and obedience and love while doing life with Him.

Well, that was kind of a tangent there haha. But here’s a little more context on God’s glory.

In Exodus 33, Moses asked to see God’s glory. And God told him He would allow His goodness to pass before him. God’s goodness demonstrates His glory. So for us to go from glory to glory, we should be increasing in what makes up His glory — goodness. Let’s live with hearts of compassion and and grace and the fruit of the Spirit.

Here’s a quote I heard that just knocked my socks off::

“God’s glory can be seen in and through your goodness to others.”

A stranger the other day told me that I looked a lot like Jesus to her. Now that’s just the biggest compliment like EVER. I want to live like that. I want people to see Jesus in me. Because He’s what this is all about, right?

What would Jesus do? He would love first.

Live like that, and you’ll find yourself going from glory to glory.
