I’m a perfectionist (enneagram 9w1 what’s good). whenever I screw up (which is more often than I’d like to admit haha), I always beat myself up over it. even over the little things. it’s really no fun putting so much pressure on myself.
“comparison is the thief of joy.” those words were spoken to me by one of our amazing team leaders.
this quote my team leader said was so simple. & even though I had heard it before, I felt like it really clicked with me this time. it really hit home for me bc I really struggle with comparing myself to others & being jealous of other people. my grades, my looks, my things, my followers, my talents & gifts, pretty much everything. it’s exhausting.
I got to talk to our two amazing men team leaders (HEYO SHOUTOUT JACOB & PHILIP) about how comparison had been silencing my voice. And it didn’t have to. I realized I had been watching everyone in their relationship with the Lord and wondering why mine doesn’t look like theirs. But the thing is it’s not supposed to! My relationship with God is different for everyone. For example, I might not hear from God in visions, but I do hear Him in music and through His Word!
This jealousy has been STEALING my joy. And that ain’t ok my dude.
I’ve also been praying about God revealing to me who He says I am, and I’ve found tons on tons of amazing Bible verses and worship music. One of my faaaaaavorite worship songs that has to do w overcoming jealousy is you say by lauren daigle. I would 10000000% recommend you give it a listen even if you’ve heard it before.
One of the lyrics from that song is “the only thing that matters now is everything You think of me” which is SO FRIGGIN GOOD because I shouldn’t have to give a flying fajita about if people think I’m successful or put together or whatever. God loves me in all my ups & downs and that’s enough for me!
