Marco – He is a 7-year old little boy that has ran away with my heart. He has a smile that will make your heart skip. I met him on our first day in the Philippines. He was full of spunk and so much good. He walks around like the man of the street and can we talk about those yellow sandals? Talk about a trend setter!
We don’t speak the same language and that’s ok. The language barrier can get frustrating at times only because I know he has no idea what I’m saying. However, it has helped me realize that I don’t have to use my words to show him Jesus.
Marco laughs really hard and plays like I want to play. All of the kids on the street love him. You can tell he has no idea why I’m in his neighborhood or why I want to hang out with him. He lets me in, though! In small ways. He doesn’t hesitate when I ask for a high five, but he hesitates when I ask for a hug. I think a hug might be too much, too fast (lol). If I had it my way, I would pick him up and squeeze him every chance I got. I want to take him with me on the rest of the Race. My team is definitely annoyed by the amount of times I’ve asked if I could adopt him. I want to show him America! Right now, all he knows is the basketball court he plays on after school and the flooded house he lives in.
I want more for Marco.
I want more for every child on this street, but I know they are all exactly where God needs them to be.
It has shown me how we truly all play a part in this world. A huge part in the remarkable plan God has for us and His children.
I’m learning how to love fast and hard this month. It’s a beautiful thing.
Pray that he always dreams big and that God grabs his heart one day and drastically transforms it.
He has left a huge mark and I will never forget him.
You da man, Marco.
