Sali!
I’m here in Bon Repos, Haiti. We arrived in Port-au-Prince a week ago. When we first arrived, we weren’t able to contact our host. There were some communication complications, so we ended up staying at a boys orphanage with another team. It was a perfect first week in Haiti. There were less than 20 boys in the orphanage and since they were on holiday from school, it felt like I was on holiday too. We just got to spend time with them all day. We played dominoes and checkers for hours. I learned 5 chords on the guitar and then taught some of the boys who then helped teach each other. I stayed up and talked about the love of God with them. I learned about their families and what they wanted to be one day. I learned the basics of Creole and I taught the basics of English. These boys were sweet and became my brothers. My heart wasn’t quite ready to leave them.
After making connection with our original hosts, we were picked up from the orphanage. We are now living in a dorm room alongside of schoolyard where each day 1,000 students come to learn. Though we are staying here, we aren’t really working with the school. We are helping 3 American missionaries get ready to host a short-term team that is arriving this weekend to help with an event here. It’s kind of an interesting couple of weeks.. to not be the missionaries that other people are working hard to host..but we get a good look of the opposite side of things. We are the ones preparing for a team to come. So much work goes into being a hospitable host and it gives me a fresh appreciation for the people that have taken care of us so well this year. Next week we all will be working with the team to help with a 3 to 4 day youth revival. I’ve never been to a revival, so I don’t know what it will look like exactly but I’m excited and hopeful. I believe God is going to show up in a mighty way.
Please be praying. I pray that more people come than ever imagined – that the place will be packed full to the max, that the hearts of the people will be ready and open and soft, and that God speaks to these people in a powerful way. I pray that this truly will be a massive revival sweeping through the hearts of the people of Haiti and that it spreads like wildfire and I pray against anything that tries to hinder it. I know God will show up.
I will be sure to update you after the revival takes place. Thank you for the love and prayers.
