I have been reading the “Screwtape Letters”
By C.S. Lewis the past couple of weeks. It is about a retired demon writing to his nephew who is a demon actively working in the world. He gives him advice and ways to make humans fall short of God. So I decided to write one as if the demons were writing about me. I hope you enjoy it and if you do I would recommend the book to you.
My dear Wormwood,
It’s sad to say that your client has now begun to realize his value in God as much as that pains me to say. You wrote to me saying he is saying he is a “son of God” and he wants to “surrender all things that don’t satisfy”. I know you are very discouraged and Our Father Below is not happy about this but let’s not forget his previous habits and lifestyle. This is to your advantage, because people who are addicted to his surroundings and pleasing others will mostly fall when they are put back in their most comfortable environment.
Make sure as he continues his “World Race” that you remind him of every mistake he has made and make him think he will fall quickly back into those same
sins. This gives him a false sense of hope and he will question why he is even doing this and that he will end up the same person before he left on this so called spiritual journey.
Now with prayer he can extinguish the words and thoughts you place before him but there is another path we can take. Ever thought about the physical aspect of this Wormwood? Making him restless, night sweats or constant temptation to please himself with worldly things? Make sure to try these tactics because one slip up, one mistake, we then have access to the deeper parts of his brain and soul. This needs to be a constant thing you do while he is away from the community. Make him feel alone and put the thought “no one could possibly understand” in his mind daily.
This is very entertaining to watch because you slowly watch as he falls away from the people that care for him the most and then ultimately falling away from The Most High One. One day when you retire, you will be able to watch the ones you worked so hard to get down here… to burn with you.
