Picture this.

19 mouths to feed and no income.

The home my team and I teach at it, houses 18 people. My host, VT Samuel and his wife, Elizabeth, have a three bedroom house specifically for the kids and one adult. Due to lack of space, VT Samuel, Elizabeth, and two of his daughters live in a small house across the street. Bilian, Elizabeths brother, lives with the kids.

VT Samuel took in three kids, along with his own four children, to help them get a better education. Because of the civil war here in Myanmar, many schools have been shut down. Most parents want their kids to get an education for better  opportunities for their futures, so they send them to live with people like VT. After he took in the first three, more people approached him, and he proceeded to take in twelve more kids. There are many different home situations with each kid, but a lot of it is that they are in need of better educations or their parents couldn’t care for them.

The faithfulness of VT Samuel and his family is incredible. After our English lessons and games, the kids leave for school, and VT Samuel leads a bible study. After our bible study, we come together and pray all at once. A moment where prayers in Burmese and English fill the room.

Raising 19 kids is a job itself, so all income is solely dependent from the Lord. This family gets “one-time” donations with just enough money to put food on the table. The minimum amount of money to feed 22 people, have electricity, school supplies, and clothes is $500 a month. One- time donations are encouraged, but long-term donators are more ideal for situations like this. If you are interested in a one- time donation you can Venmo me at “Macayla_Collinsworth,” and I can get the money to this family while I’m still in the country. If you are interested in becoming a long- term donator, you can email me at “[email protected].”
