The Heavenly Man
Brother Yun and Paul Hattaway

In my last post about books I mentioned that I would tell you about a guy who got teleported. Well, that guy is Brother Yun (pronounced Joon). And that is just one of the incredibly ridiculous things that he has experienced. Add to that things like fasting without food or water for over 70 days (medically impossible) and walking out the front door of a FULLY GUARDED prison…with two broken legs!!!

His whole story is absolutely incredible…and hard to believe. In fact, many people say he’s making it up, or exaggerating because there are so many miracles involved.  However, many others believe The Holy Spirit is very much alive, and active, and crazy powerful…and that the things Yun writes about are real.  Very real.  I’m in the later camp.

The Heavenly Man woke me up and got me fired up in a way no other book has. Yun’s passion for evangelism, his reckless faith in a good, providing God and his humility towards being a servant is a powerful combination. This book not only speaks of incredible, modern day miracles, but also of some pretty intense suffering Yun and his family have experienced as a result of being sold out to Christ. And I mean sold out.

As I’m typing this, I know I’m not coming anywhere close to conveying how powerful this story is. You really should read it for yourself. It’s probably the single best picture I’ve come across of what it looks like to live radically, everyday, as a fully alive follower of Christ. It contains amazing stories of hope and rescue, along with the hard realities that living for Jesus means sacrifice and suffering. Very real sacrifice and suffering. It’s intense…and my mom will probably tell you it might make you cry, or be hard to read…but it’s worth it.  Really, it is.  GO READ IT!  IT WILL ROCK YOU!!

The way Brother Yun lives his life is inspiring. His story definitely made me want to get off my ass, get into the world, and start living a life believing in a God who does the impossible!
