I’m very late with this, but here are 50 things about me for my September Route 1 squad! 🙂

  1. My parents and family are from Korea, but I was born and raised in the States.
  2. I have one older sister, and our age gap is 11 years.
  3. I’m pretty short- I think I’m around 5’2”, maybe a fraction of an inch taller. But I’m okay with it!
  4. I kind of grew up in the church, but I didn’t fully pursue God until college.
  5. I went to college at Duke, and I’m convinced that the Lord brought me there not for academic excellence, but to meet Him and to develop amazing, genuine relationships.
  6. I was very involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in college.  Through IVCF I discovered God, friends, and the unique importance of college ministry.
  7. I majored in psychology.
  8. English is my first language. I’m fairly fluent in Korean and conversant in Spanish, but my Spanish is quite rusty right now.
  9. I like to live simply. Not high maintenance.
  10. I like to be organized and neat, but any outward mess tends to reflect how tired and busy I am, or how crazy things are during that period of time.
  11. I’m an introvert. I definitely need my space to rest and process things.
  12. I don’t really like large crowds of people (unless we’re worshiping together!).
  13. I am quite emotional. While I can usually be levelheaded, my strong emotions can be triggered randomly.
  14. I think I’m fairly quick to move on from situations and relationships.
  15. I love talking about personalities and analyzing other people and myself.
  16. Speaking of which… I am an INFJ (Myers-Briggs personality type).
  17. I’ve always had low self-esteem and I often struggle with some degree of self-hatred.
  18. I have trouble identifying my passions and gifts.
  19. I really value empathy and compassion.
  20. I wish I didn’t care so much about what others think or say, but unfortunately I am a people-pleaser.
  21. I love music! Growing up, I played the piano, flute, and piccolo.  Band, wind ensemble, orchestra, chamber group all the time!
  22. In college I sang in an all-female Christian a cappella group, where I also learned very basic beatboxing.
  23. I only know a few chords on the guitar, but I really want to learn more.
  24. I want to learn how to dance more! I never danced growing up, but in college I took social dance and Latin dance, so I learned the basics of salsa, tango, waltz, bachata, rumba, swing, shag, etc. So much fun!
  25. The main sport of my childhood was Tae Kwon Do (martial arts), but I stopped due to time constraints after the beginning of high school.
  26. I really enjoy reading, but I’m sad that I haven’t read many books outside of school for the past several years.
  27. I feel naked without a watch. And I wear mine on my right wrist although I’m right-handed!
  28. The countries outside the States that I’ve been to: Canada (barely, just Niagara), Korea, Honduras.
  29. I like making connections, and I love analogies.
  30. Poetry is cool!
  31. I secretly want to learn how to act. Zero experience, but I think it would be fun, challenging, and intellectually stimulating for sure.
  32. I’m not naturally inclined to seek the thrill of adventure, but I try to be open to trying new things. (The Race is bound to make me more adventurous!)
  33. I’m pretty awful at memorizing facts and things, especially if it’s rote memorization of stuff that seems irrelevant to my tasks or interests. I think I have a selective memory, too.
  34. I’m striving to embrace my uniqueness and the way God created me. Kind of a struggle.
  35. I love the arts. I’m a firm believer in the importance and impact of arts education, so I find it sad that the arts are often the first thing to go with budget cuts.
  36. I like watching musicals and shows of any sort.
  37. I recently purchased a new camera for the Race (a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera), and I’ve always wanted to learn photography. Just starting to learn now!
  38. Before watching documentaries, I thought they would just be boring. But they’re fascinating and enlightening!
  39. I love listening to people’s stories and learning about cultures.
  40. I tend to avoid conflict and confrontation.
  41. I like children.
  42. I love the beach and wish I were closer to one.
  43. I’m not a big meat-eater. Though I’m not a vegetarian, I think I could be one. And if I do ever end up becoming one, it’ll be after the Race (can’t afford to have food restrictions!).
  44. I love fruit- I don’t think I can live without it! Other yummy stuff: noodles, sweet potato, hummus, granola, chocolate, almonds, rice cake, soy milk, Korean food in general. Oh, and I absolutely love spicy food!
  45. I really don’t like public speaking, and I generally have trouble articulating myself verbally. Definitely not eloquent.
  46. I like being barefoot, even when it’s cold and I know that if my feet are cold, my body will also be cold.
  47. I much prefer warm weather to cold, and I dislike humidity.
  48. Laughter is the best remedy! I love people who can make me laugh. Occasionally, I have laughing fits; maybe you guys will witness a few on the Race.
  49. I like spelling and grammar.
  50. Sorry I’m so long-winded! This came out to be longer than expected…
