Walking in God’s purpose is challenging- yes, but it’s totally, undoubtedly with it. There is so much beauty.
As I strive to walk in God’s purpose, He has given me tasks to dive into and take on. I really love the ways He has laid these out for me so I wanted to share them.
1. Take your sandals off.
In the book of Exodus, Moses approaches a burning bush in the desert which actually wasn’t uncommon. He noticed this particular bush was completely consumed in fire so Moses turned back and approached it. Turns out, it was God showing His presence through the bush.
God didn’t scream out as Moses passed, He waited for Him to look and come closer. “Do not come any closer”, the Lord warned. “Take off your sandals, for you are standing on Holy ground.”
The neat thing is, He wasn’t asking Moses to remove his sandals only out of respect, but also as a sign that he would stay a while, that he wasn’t in a rush, so that he may be still in the presence of God and listen.
We want God to speak to us so badly, but how many times do we fail to take the time to do what Moses did- turn to look upon the presence of God? He wants us to put in the effort.
Sometimes I am in such a rush to hear from the most powerful, sweet, and beautiful voice, but he wants a relationship with me; not only for me to hear and obey. He wants me to look for Him, take those steps and pause to actually hear his voice. He wants me to be still and remove my sandals. As a good friend of mine, Jenna says, “linger longer”.
Just imagine if Moses never turned and went closer to that bush, if he would have brushed it off like any other burning bush in the desert. He may have gone about with his days never knowing God’s purpose for his life. He could have missed the parting of the Red Sea, leading God’s people out of Egypt, or any of the other miracles the Lord performed using Moses!
Don’t miss out on the purpose the Lord is calling over your life. Take your sandals off and stay a while.
2. Place your Eyes on the Throne
When God commanded Moses to lead His people out of Egypt into the land promised flowing with milk and honey, Moses protested, “who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”. God answered, “I will be with you”.
Our Father tells us He will never leave us!! Why do we always seem not to remember that?
It’s not solely that He will be with us, but He wants us to believe in that love and look towards Him.
He says, “I AM WHO I AM. Yahweh, the God of your ancestor- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”
That shows power, and that is an almighty God!!! Our Father!! and He is WITH us!!
I am limited. Inadequate. Yet, God doesn’t call me to do anything for Him through my own strength. He calls me to be faithful and step out, to place my eyes on the throne and allow Him to work through me. Stepping into the unknown is scary because we simply do not know, but the Lord is always faithful.
So as we stay focused on Him, we can meet fear at the door.
3. Meet Fear at the Door
Moses fears, “what if they won’t believe or listen to me?” and God equips him with everything He needs.
2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?”
“A staff,” he replied.
3 The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.”
Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it.4 Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. 5 “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.”

6 Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous[e]—it had become as white as snow.
7 “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh.

9 But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.”

Then Moses argued that he cannot speak eloquent enough to speak as a servant of the Lord, and God says
“Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”

Why do we fear to enter into new seasons of life that God is calling us to jump into? He equips us!!! He gives us everything we need, whether we see it or not, to attack our fears; to face them head on.
Our lives would be pretty boring if we never faced our fears. We might never walk into God’s promises if we never face them.
Our Father wants us to walk into newness, which is overcoming our fears and having faith because we have placed our eyes on the throne.
To walk in the purpose God was calling Moses into, he first had to remove his sandals, he then had to place his eyes on the throne, and face his fears.
We are called to do the same. We need to linger longer to hear what we are being called into, walk with Jesus throughout the process, and face our fears because He has equipped us with anything we need to do that. He is good.

“Learning to walk with God is a process. And just when we think we have it all figured out, God leads us to a new place where our old tricks won’t work. In fact, it may seem like we’re learning how to walk all over again. And in a way, we are. We enter unfamiliar territory and are soon reminded that on our own, we stumble”
