When you’re asked to help clean out a house; and it’s infested with rats. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to help feed the homeless; and a tiny truck pulls up and you and 15 other people have to shove in the back just to travel to ministry. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to help prepare dinner; and you start peeling carrots that are black and bend in a circle. Will you still say yes?

 

When you have to use a sketchy bathroom with no lights; and you get locked inside. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to help sort food donations; and there are maggots on them. Will you still say yes?

 

When you just bought dinner; and on your way home a man tells you he is hungry. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re given a place to sleep; and it’s crawling with cockroaches. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re given a bathroom; and the shower turns on at random times and soaks you while you’re relieving yourself at 3am. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re most looking forward to Latvia; and then your route changes and your squad is no longer going to Latvia. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re team is going on an adventure day; and you’re asked to go to youth group with pregnant teens instead. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to help with in home ministry; and you then find out you need to hike the Andes Mountains to get to certain homes. Will you still say yes?

 

When a child with maggots on their neck runs full speed in your direction; and wants a hug. Will you still say yes?

 

When you hate seafood; and you’re served seafood and told you can’t throw it away. Will you still say yes?

 

When you get sick on a bus; and you’re told you still have an 11 hour drive. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to help with recycling; and all the cardboard is covered in animal blood. Will you still say yes?

 

When a child is yelling your name; and when you get there you see that they’ve pooped their pants. Will you still say yes?

 

When a homeless elderly lady is sitting in the dirt on the side of the road; and the Holy Spirit prompts you to sit with her. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to be a PE teacher outside all day; and the government has released a health warning about the abnormally high risk for ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Will you still say yes?

 

When you see a man gashed with a knife and kicked repetitively; and your team literally has to hold you upright as you weep. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re an introvert; and your alone time looks a lot like being surrounded by others. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re placed on an all female team; and your past is permeated with hurt caused by females. Will you still say yes?

 

When a small child asks you to braid their hair; and it’s infested with lice. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re asked to wear pants for ministry; and it’s 90+ degrees outside. Will you still say yes?

 

When you’re walking the poverty riddled streets of downtown Medellín; and the Holy Spirit asks you to give away one of your shirts. Will you still say yes?

 

When a pregnant teen asks you if you get made fun of for believing in Jesus; and then asks you to tell her about your relationship with Jesus. Will you still say yes?

 

 

I’ve said yes. And I get to continue saying yes to Jesus, for Jesus, and to all His children.
