Dane Cook, a famous comedian, has a set that he does called
“The Vicious Cycleâ€.  I do not recommend
that you listen to it because he is not the cleanest of comedians, nor does he
use the best language.  However, this
title was perfect for what I am reading about in Jeremiah right now!  Israel and Judah go away from God.  They are living in sin, but God tells them to
come back to Him, repent of their sin, and He will forgive them.  Israel comes back, repents, and follows God
for a little while.  THEN, the cycle
begins AGAIN!  Over and over this cycle
repeats itself.  It seems as if the
nation of Israel never learns its lesson.
It’s a “vicious cycle.

As I was condemning Israel in my mind, I thought, “Don’t we
do the same thing?â€  We go through these stages
of this “vicious cycleâ€ also.  We follow
Jesus so closely for part of our lives; reading His Word, fervently praying,
sharing with others, etc.  Other times we
get lazy, we begin to follow “other godsâ€ just as the Israelites did.  Maybe they aren’t little golden statues…but
maybe we are more concerned with little green papers (money) or big plastic
boxes (TV) or even relationships with others that you love, which are truly
important.  Even still, we give our
attention to other things/ people and eventually realize what we’ve done.  We must then confess and return to our God.

Jeremiah 3:22 says, “My wayward children, says the Lord,
“come back to me, and I will heal your wayward hearts.â€

“Yes, we’re coming,â€ the people reply,
“for you are the Lord our God.

Tell me what you think about this “vicious cycleâ€.  I would really like to hear your thoughts…so
I am officially opening this blog up for discussion.  Scripture?
