“When Jesus had finished this sermon, the crowds were astonished at His teaching, because He was teaching them like one who had authority, and not like their scribes.” Matthew 7:28-29
It hit me as I was reading these verses last night that we have been talking about how Christ’s power resides in us! In Acts 1:8 it says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and You will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” We have that same authority that Christ had as he was speaking to this crowd! People can say that about us as we preach in Africa, share our faith in Thailand, or pray over sickened and diseased men and women in Romania. We have all the authority to be bold in our faith in Jesus Christ!
In the very next chapter He shows that authority in not only His words, but His actions. In Chapter 8 of Matthew He heals the sick, calms the sea, and drives out demons! Wow! In Jesus Name may we have power and authority in the things that we say and do as we speak words of life and love into people all over the world…as well as in our own hometowns.
