One of my favorite Shane and Shane songs is “Burn Us
Up.â€  This song, if you haven’t
heard it yet, is about the Story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in “The
Fiery Furnace.â€  My favorite line
in this song is, “You have made us, come and save us, we are yours….but even if
you don’t, we will burn.â€  I love
it so much because these 3 men KNEW that their God could save them from that
fire, but even if God’s will was for them to die in it…they knew that He was
still the God of all and they would not renounce their faith for a statue of
gold or an angry king.

This is the story that we taught to the Sunday School kids
this past Sunday.  It was so fun
teaching them.  We put motions to
the story and every time we said “King Nebuchadnezzar, “Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego, or “furnace they had to do an action that we taught them to go
along with the phrase.  Then they
had to act out parts of this story in groups.  As I studied this story the week before, it came alive to
me. I think it also resonated in many of them as we taught.

Taniuska has been reading through the Old Testament over the
last couple of months, and has really seen and related to us how much she sees
that these people are really living this story out. I suppose it’s not exactly like this time in the Bible…they
wouldn’t get thrown in a fiery furnace in actuality…but they could get shunned
from their families, people could choose to not sell them something because of
their beliefs, or they could get taken to jail for sharing the gospel.

This story very much applied to these children…they will
grow up knowing exactly what it means to have to have faith in their
all-powerful God, as opposed to their man-powered gods.  Pray for them as they grow in Christ,
and have child-like faith in the only God that can save them.
