The first thing I want you to know about Cambodia is that it’s beautiful. The People are amazing, and Battambang (the town where we lived) is truly incredible. Our ministry in Cambodia consisted of teaching english to the students that we lived with and doing some manual labor with a swiss volunteer that was there. The ministry we worked with focused on giving high school students from out of town a way to go to school. The students paid for a spot at the boarding house and our ministry paid for their tuition to school, while also helping them to learn skills that would help them put their education to good use such as: responsibility, work ethic, respect etc. While, of course, teaching them about God in the process.
It was a great month full of laughs, skits, Justin Beiber, bible study, worship in cafes, and Y-WAM. God used this past month to teach me lessons about pride (see my Viet Nam blog!) and boundaries that are lessons I hope to carry with me for the rest of my life. He brought me new friends (hey Juram and Elias!!) and he continued to shed light into what Kingdom community and family looks like. He provided incredible opportunities for members of my team to disciple people both in our house and in the community.
God also took me to see the deep hurt left in this country by the Khmer Rough under the reign of Pol Pot. While visiting Phnom Penh my team and I were able to visit the Killing Fields and the S21 prison (Please if you haven’t herd about this look it up some of my squad mates wrote blogs about their experience at these places that I will link below but there is a ton of info out there. Learn, educate lets not let this kind of thing continue). God showed us these horrible things but then he invited us to step up and to follow the second greatest commandment “love your neighbor as yourself” even when your neighbor is an enemy.
Over all the month was incredible. I just can’t stress enough how much I love Cambodia and the incredible people who live there.
Thanks for stopping by!
