I wish I could accurately convey the beauty that is Guatemala, but it’s just so hard to put into words. We are surrounded by volcanoes, cobble stone roads, and the greenest trees you have ever seen.
But what’s even more beautiful than the scenery is the people. I don’t speak spanish and the majority of the people we meet don’t speak english. Language barriers are hard. But they can communicate happiness with a simple smile. A smile is universal, and the people of Guatemala give them freely.
We have been spending everyday in the schools working with kids age 10-18. We have been sharing with them the importance of core values/principles as well as sex educaction. We relate this back to scripture and why, as christians, we hold ourselves to scripture. It has been a joy to see the kids interact and take away from these 40 minute talks.
Its amazing how fast you can establish a connection with someone in a classroom by just smiling and sharing a laugh. I can’t wait to explore the next couple of weeks in Antigua and build even stronger bonds with these people.
