Advice for future Racers in Morogoro/Tanzania:

1. Learn some more Swahili (because most people here do not speak English as well as they do in Kenya:

Bwana Safiwe: Praise Jesus
Habari aku (spelling?): How are you?
Mzuri: Good
Choo: Toilet
Safari: Travel
Baraka: Blessing
Naema: Grace
Pole pole: slowly
We we: you
Yesu: Jesus
Mungu aku bariki: God bless you
Mungu aku pende: God loves you
Goodbye: Kwaheri

2. Don’t get malaria and typhoid. That’s a month ruiner.

3. Go to Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar Island if you can. We didn’t get to go to Zanzibar because there were terrorist attacks not long before we got to TZ. We were really bummed. I spent one day in Dar when we took Liz to the airport. It was nice and I hear there’s a Subway somewhere around there that may or may not have Raspberry Cheesecake cookies. AHHH!

4. If you’re in Morogoro, climb the Orogoro (spelling?) mountain and go to the waterfall! We had so much fun going upstream in the waterfall and sliding down the rocks into the water with the African babies.

Our month in Tanzania was pretty challenging with most of our teammates getting sick with malaria, typhoid, and other parasites. It was hard sending our team leader home, but she is definitely where she’s meant to be… with her boyfriend and Starbucks red cups. 😉 Nonetheless, Tanzania was a beautiful country and we were so blessed by our ministry contacts and the people we met. We’re so excited to see what our last month in Africa has in store!
