“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in Thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7

This has been a theme for me in the last couple days as I learn my place as I live in community. This month, as I have mentioned, my team is working with two other teams. There are twenty of us living together. I truly enjoy it but as it is now day 4 here I have to learn who I am amidst the 19 other people and what I can do to be part of the runnings of a 20 person family.

I have been learning about keeping my life disciplined and routine as much as possible as well as keeping a healthy balance of “family life”. That’s where this verse has been so instrumental. It isn’t about what I can gain or about me being the most popular or the one making the most decisions, etc. It’s about Jesus as I continue to find more of my identity in Him. Out of that identity of being “rooted and built up in him and established in faith” we are able to operate in love and through a spirit of thanksgiving. In that, there is true joy. Through His love we don’t need to try to live on the reliance of others. He is ENOUGH. There is freedom in this.

In what ways are you operating outside of the identity God has given you?
