Do you know those times when you hear something again that you've heard a million times, but you really hear the words that are being said and you actually realize what they mean?
A couple days ago I learned that God treats me like His child. I have literally always know that. But somehow I have always thought that God was different, much more strict and all knowing and generally less enthusiastic about my efforts because I screw up a lot. But yesterday I put two and two together. I was talking with my teammate about how God is a father and then I thought about the way that my parents treat me.
My parents love me more than anyone else in the world loves me. They support everything I do. That's part of what makes them amazing parents. They are probably the biggest blessing in my life. So why wouldn't God be the same and more? God's love for me is not based on the things that I do for him. It's really not. God just loves me. He supports me in the decisons I make, turning the good and bad into His glory. And while my parents truly are amazing, God is a better. It doesn't matter if your earthly father and mother are not who they should be, because God is the perfect parent.
"So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him." (Matthew 7:11 NLT)
