“We must not allow other people’s limited perceptions to define us”
The scripture says, “God will give you beauty for ashes.” Ashes represent our broken dreams, our failures, our disappointments and our hurts. Here’s the key: you have to let go of the ashes before you can receive the beauty. If you won’t let go of the old, you can’t receive the new.
Who I am is not enough based upon the outward expectations of friends and family and the ones that have hurt you. We end up creating a version of ourselves that is not our self but rather a false identity to please the world. I have been listening to others for so long and began to believe what they have to say about me.
We have got to spend more time talking to ourselves rather than listening.
We must take every thought captive and bring them to the Lord. Take the conversation out of our head and put it into context. We must really reflect on the negative thoughts and reflect on why they are influencing us so much. We must really reflect the negative lies that come with these thoughts and turn them into truth.
From the beginning Adam and Eve’s worth was discovered by sin rather than defining it through what God had to say. I must heard God saying, “Who told you that” when negative thoughts come into my head.
We must remember that God will remove our sins and not keep a track record of them. It is sooo true that our human mind is greater than that of God’s memory when he forgives our sins.
Recurring thoughts don’t define us but we must create a new tape to play into our head to renew our minds. Romans 12:2 says, Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them by the truth, your word is truth.” We must identify the truths that cover the lies because we become what we believe.
Coming into training camp I was speaking so much negativity into my life and I believed this broken record.. I have realized now how important speaking positive words into my life is. God really spoke into me and changed my beliefs telling me:
You are enough. You are strong. You are a fighter. You will have motivation. You will persevere. You will be carried by me. You will hold my hand. You are not alone. Yow will be accompanied. You will have others. It will not be easy and the path is narrow but you are a warrior. I will be with you the whole way. You are worthy and you are enough.
I responded by saying:
Your voice will be ever so clear for I forgive myself of all the negative thoughts that I wasn’t enough. I know now that you are everything I need to make me whole. There will be no doubts, no self pity, and no shame over me. I am free from myself. I am free from my own prison. I can now live and worship freely in the Lord.
I am changing my identity. I now find my identity in Christ and not through society and what others tell me. You cannot and will not define me. I am so much more than society has to say about me! I am a child of God, I am a daughter of the King, I am a princess, I am chosen, I am a brand new creation in Christ, I am his masterpiece, I am beautiful, I am confident.
This is who I am!
Just remember:
You are not a star…. You are a galaxy.
