Upon entering into the fishing community we did door to door evangelism. We started out in a very small village. Door to door ministry was something that I was dreading coming into this month. I didn’t ever know what to expect. Sometimes I just don’t hear God’s voice, maybe I’m just not listening closely, and I don’t have scripture memories to a tee to spout out. So going into door to door I already felt ill prepared with a negative mindset.
However things automatically changed with a met a dear women who was concerned about her son. She had already been a Christian. You could see her joy, and already the blessing that we were to her just by being there. She led us to her son. She said to us that she was concerned because he was not a Christian and was really burden by alcoholism. I cannot relate to this women on a daily basis but trust me I felt the pain behind her words and the tear filled eyes that she had.
We were able to minister to her son. I so wish I could tell you a happy ending of after we sung amazing grace with tear filled eyes that her son was saved. But that was not the case. Seeds were planted and sometimes, most of the time we do not see the fruit from our sowing. This young man and many do didn’t feel he was up to standards and needed to go to church before he could be saved.
Grace: a free and unearned favor of God.
The one phrase that could sum up this month would have to be:
There is nothing you can do to set you away from
the love of the Lord because there is always grace.
So many locals in Nicaragua believe that they have to be perfect. They have to have their act together. They have to go to church. They have to dress a certain way or act a certain way to be a Christian. And Lord knows that if this was the case I wouldn’t add up.
No one would.
And this is why there is grace.
Grace: for our mess-ups
Grace: for our imperfections
Grace: for when we don’t say the right thing
Grace: for when we hurt our friends and family
Grace: for when we sin
Grace: for when we just don’t feel like coming to God but he shows up anyways
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not writing this as an open invitation for you to do whatever you want in your relationship with God. If you think that you have missed the point entirely. I am here to encourage you to take your mess, your brokenness and come to the Lord the way you are because He will meet you there.
Come to the Lord when you are so frustrated at Him because you just don’t understand what His plan is. Come to the Lord when you are being drove nuts by all the people around you. Come to the Lord when things just are not going right. Come to the Lord to thank Him for all the incredible things He is doing.
Just come.
