Hey all! I am Lydia Flowers, and yes I love my parents greatly for blessing me with the most awesome name ever in my opinion. I am 23 years old and thrilled that I will be leaving for this trip in my birthday month! I am from Shepherdsville Kentucky which is a small town south of Louisville. I have just recently graduated with my bachelors in social work and currently am obtaining my masters in social work through Campbellsville University which is a small private Christian college. I will thankfully graduate in May of 2016! I currently am way to busy for my own good as I am balancing two jobs, an internship, and school! You could say I’m very determined!

For my work I was ever so blessed to become a foster parent supervisor right out of getting my bachelors at New Hope Foster Homes. My dream job through school has always been working in international adoptions for a Christian organization. I also have a passion for seniors so I do PRN nights about 4 times a month working as a resident assistant at Elmcroft Senior Living for seniors who have dementia. Then on top of that for my schooling I’m required to have an internship and was welcomed into an agency called, Kentucky refugee ministries. We work with refugees from all over the world but I work directly with individuals from Cuba and Haiti. So all in all I have a huge heart for just people all around.

I have a great relationship with my parents though this hasn’t always been the case. Thankfully through much prayer and the support of living with my grandparents we have patched our relationship and it is better than ever. I seriously have the best family, friends, professors, co-workers, church family, and pets ever!

I have always been grown up within a Baptist church. I was first baptized as a young child during VBS. I tried my hardest to follow Gods through what I thought were some crazy twist and turns. What do you know it all led to this even crazier mission trip! There have been many times where I just wanted to reach out and say God can we please take a breather then get back to running…and yet this is always where I got into trouble. For the longest time I cried out to the Lord to move in my life because I didn’t feel like he was there anymore. I knew I needed to follow him and listen but I just didn’t feel like I was hearing him because I was so caught up into college and overwhelmed with life in general. Within the last year I have switched churches and the fire in me is burning ever so strong to proclaim the Lord to the nations!

In all honestly I am just stepping out on a ledge and jumping into something that I may not completely understand all of what I have gotten into but when I reach the bottom I plan on running and going as far as the Lord plans on taking me. I am excited about this experience and chapter of my life and believe that this is what I have been called to do. I know my life has been a cake walk prepared to other people’s lives but I feel that my compassion for others, love to treat others fairly, and my unconditional love will be beneficial to others. I am willing to do whatever is put in front of me even if I am hesitant in the beginning to begin. I want to get as much and more out of this trip and to provide for others every once of myself to them without anything to spare. I want to lay myself on the line at the sake of others truly within this trip.

Then on a personal level

  • I am a lover of coffee and tea of all sorts. If you want to order for me at Starbucks during the fall I will take a chai tea latte with pumpkin. Seriously the best.
  •  I am an avid nail polish painter. Calms my nerves.
  • Then in my spare time I love to shop thrift shops for some awesome vintage goods and normally that’s where I get all my my books from.
  • I have traveled out of the country once for a week and a half to Belize for some social services work through school.
  •  I will always be that person that if you are not smiling I will put a smile on your face or give you a hug when needed.
  • I grew up as a tomboy but overtime I have slowly became more city girly. So I will be completely stepping out of my comfort zone again with Hiking, Camping, and Backpacking.
  • I love to sing, and everyone says I am good enough to do songs at church so I do! Lets lead some worship music together! I am taking anyone up on the offer to teach guitar!
  • I have played clarinet from 5th grade clear through my senior year of college. Marching, Pep, and Concert. Some of the best memories ever.
