1. Marmite and vegemite are two very different things that most Americans won’t like.
-Both are basically a yeast paste that Kiwis and Aussies grew up eating. It’s a very acquired taste. However, mistaking these as the same thing is the equivalent of mistaking Coke and Pepsi as the same thing.
  2. Leading with authenticity is an incredibly valuable skill.
    – People can tell when you’re being genuine. People are more willing to follow why you’re doing something than how you’re doing it. If you’re authentic with your why then people will be more loyal.
  3. If you give people the chance to be trustworthy, most of the time they come through.

    – I was raised to always have book with me because you never know when you’re going to have to kill time. Lucie doesn’t like to carry a wallet, keys, or phone around because it weighs her down. Sometimes it’s better showing up with only yourself and not prepared.
  8. It’ll be fine.
    – Sometimes things go wrong. Having a little positivity and knowing things will work out helps a lot more than you might think. Plus, it’ll be fine so why worry
  9. Plans are good and trusting a friend who doesn’t like them is good too.
    – I love routine and structure. Lucie likes to longboard. Sometimes it’s better to longboard.
  10. Showing foreigners the gift that is free refills is better than Christmas.
  11. Sometimes you have to say hard things to friends and be okay if they might not like you for bit.
    – Part of having a high value for authenticity means people will tell you the real thing. Lucie and I have said truth to each other that risked the other person not being our number one fan for while. I know our friendship is better off for it.
  12. Americans are terrible at doing the dishes.
    – We let the water run the whole time. It’s really a problem. It’s much better for the environment if you just fill up the sink.
  13. Dan Carter is an angel walking on earth.
  14. Loving people is a simple thing.
    – Lucie is really good at loving others. If you ask her what her secret is most of the time she says you just be with them.
  15. Kiwis text talk is incredible.
    – Here’s a real message I got from her: “Shooooot I completely forgot sorry! Yesssss tomorrow! Breakfast? if you get this in time, origami 7.30? If you don’t all g we can do later yeeeeeeeehooooow”
  16. You can’t buy happiness but Kinder Joys are better and you can buy those.

  20. Some people say zed when saying the last letter of the alphabet.
    – It’s Z, Lucie. Just Z.
  21. Just because you don’t hit it off instantly with someone doesn’t mean you won’t be great friends.
    – Lucie and I took awhile to warm up to each other. Which is odd because we don’t normally do that with any other human ever.
  22. Above all else I’ve learned that Lucie Vanderpyl is one of my favourite humans and I’m glad we’re friends. Happy birthday, friend.
