A few days ago we went to Los Pinos, the neighborhood that many of the boys at Zion’s Gate Ministry are from. We went to visit their families, play soccer, bring food to the families, and to pray over the city.
Upon arrival, we climbed up a large hill to a lookout point, where we could see all of Tegucigalpa on one side, and all of Los Pinos on the other. Two little boys followed us up the hill and began a conversation with us. We soon found out they were brothers, Tyson and Angel (Ahn-hel), and they agreed to pray for the city with us.
I asked what they thought we should pray for, and Angel said that he would like to pray for all the poor people and the country of Honduras because it is in a bad state. Tyson’s prayer was for the horse that lived down the street, and that she and her baby horses would have food to eat. Their personal prayer requests were for their dad, who works really hard to bring home food for their family, and that someday they could go to the United States to learn English.
Tyson was a little shy to pray, but he intently participated in the conversation and listened carefully.
We all held hands and I began to pray. I could feel Angel’s spiritual energy in his grasp of my hand. I knew he couldn’t wait to pray, so I looked up and gave him the nod to take over. He prayed for Honduras, the poor, for food and health.
I saw Jesus in his eyes, I felt Jesus in his hand, and I heard Jesus in his prayer.
The ways that God reveals himself are so evident, but they come in surprise packages sometimes. I had no idea that a 6 year old boy could have such fire inside of him, such a compassion for his family, community, and country.
His faith is going to move mountains in Los Pinos and in the world. He radiates with God’s love and passion for the lost and the poor. In the world’s eyes, Angel is poor, but the truth is he is full of the richness of Christ.
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied."
Luke 6: 20-21
