In honor of my time spent at camp this summer coming to a
close, here are nine similarities between camp and the World Race.

1. You meet and bond with crazy people.

It takes a certain kind of crazy to work at summer camp, and
it takes a certain kind of crazy to go on the World Race. You get to know
people quickly because, well, they’re the only people around. Theyre with you
on good days and bad days, happy days, sad days…pretty much every day.

2. There are always children running around.

There are plenty of children at summer camp, and it seems as
though World Racers constantly attract the attention of the local children in
whatever country theyre in.

3. You get sick of the food.

Chicken nuggets again? Great. Rice for the fifth month in a
row? Fantastic.

4. You take cold showers.

We did have hot water at camp but it took forever so most of
the time I would be too impatient and just took a cold shower. On the World
Race I doubt I’ll even have the choice

5. You embrace the unexpected.

Kitchens lose running water randomly, kids poop in random
places, and bugs find their way onto your desk on a regular basis at camp. I
cant even fathom the weird things that will happen on the race, but camp has
definitely taught me to take these things in stride because chances are they
will be funny later.

6. You encounter beautiful landscapes.

One of my favorite parts of camp was the blue skies, green
grass, millions of stars, and beautiful weather that I got to experience every
day. The World Race is likewise sure to bring some breathtaking views, if not
everyday then at least every once in a while. J

7. You sometimes miss the real world.

There was many a time when the camp bubble seemed too small
and all I wanted to do was escape to normal life. I imagine this feeling will
be about a million times stronger on the World Race.

8. Lives are changed.

By far the coolest part of working at camp is watching the
campers and staff grow and mature over the course of the summer. Sometimes even
over the course of one week you could see a difference. We’ll only be in each
country for one month, but I am confident that God will use our time to affect
the lives of those around us.

9. YOU are changed.

I learned way more than I bargained for about myself and
about God this summer, which makes me that much more excited for what’s to come
in the next 11 months!
