So we are now in
Mafambisse, Mozambique staying at an orphanage called Mama Rita’s. Pastor Peter
is the one running things here. He is an amazing person and has quite a story.
He has been blind since the age of 13 from a case of the measles. He has an aunt
that runs the whole organization. That is Mama Rita and we have yet to meet
her. She was married to Peter’s uncle and was murdered my some muslims some
years back. He was out doing house visits and got a call to go to a house late
at night. When he arrived at the bus station, the guy who called, called him
again to see if it was him and when he answered, another guy went out and
stabbed him. He had thrown his phone prior to that thinking the people were
coming to rob him, but he had screamed when it happened so people came to his
rescue. He was able to get a hold of Peter and Rita and they met him at the
hospital. He was able to say bye to them and tell Peter to continue to take
care of the orphans, so he has since that day. By God’s grace and love. It is
awesome how he operates. I have never been close to a blind person for an
extended period of time. He has learned all our names and only took a day or
2. Just amazing!
We are
doing a number of things here. We go out in the mornings and either go to orphans
that they take care of but don’t stay here, visit hospitals, prisons, and
evangelize. This weekend we went to another village about an hour away. So we
get going around 4 and hop in the back of a the typical transport truck. We are
on our way! So we get there around 6 and make our mile walk into the town. We
arrive and they set out chairs for us to sit and relax, so we of course do. It
is a while and we start to entertain ourselves. Massages are given and my hair
may or may not have been corn rowed. Yes there are pics. Simmer. So we are
waiting for dinner to be made which isn’t for a couple hours. In the mean time,
they start to get some equipment outside and we can’t tell this is happening
because they haven’t kicked on the generator yet. They do that and they start
to get some music going. Some time after that, I was notified that we would be
having a service and if we had a message. This is at 930 and we get dinner
around 10.
Little piece of info, I am slighty dehydrated
so that means my body aches, I have a headache, my body aches and my stomach is
on the line of ok and queasy. So it is hard to describe the meal we were
served. So we get nsema, which is hard to explain to you back home. Look it up
online to get the best idea. It has really no taste, but it isn’t bad. So we
get that and something in some Tupperware. We expect goat, which is pretty
common here. Well it is, BUT it is the heart, kidney or testicle, we couldn’t
determine at the time and something else that was wrapped in small pods and wrapped
with what we can only call intestines. So needless to say, we didn’t eat. We
figured it would be best to turn it down instead of ricking throwing up at the
table. So yeah there’s that. They clean it up and service starts at 11. They
have dancing and loud music. We are up there watching and sometimes dancing
too. They have this piece of wire up front separating the crowd from us.
Different. Christy brings her message around midnight and then they dance some
more and we join in since we are all giddy at this point. They let us all go to
bed at 1 and it takes some work to get to sleep since the music continues and
we are only about 40 feet from the fun.
We sort of sleep and 5 AM ON THE
DOT…….they start back up. I can’t tell you what went through my mind at that
moment. I thought I was dreaming to be honest. NOPE! They were up at ’em ready
to go baptize people. We slowly rise and pack up our stuff since we are only
there for one day. We follow them around 6 to what they called a river but it
turns out to be part of a creek that has been sitting and is covered with
stuff. They clear it out and get to work. There are about 12 people to be
washed anew in Jesus. They do and we head back. We don’t do anything til about
11 when they start the communion service with a revival pastor from Zimbabwe. I
will tell you, this guy can SPEAK! Too bad I had a head ache and it was so HOT!
I listened to him talk for an hour and was not in the mood. He did some good work though! He was hollering
and bringing the word in big ways!
Once that was done, we got lunch
and were on our way back home. And this was the hottest day so far in Africa!
We get back home and I am doing ok. We get a NICE cool shower and that about
does me in. I come back in and take a small nap and then when dinner comes out,
that is when I notice I am not feeling as well as I did when I fell asleep. So
I take my stuff and retreat to the house the women are in, where I am hoping it
is quieter and cooler. Well I find it to be a tad bit quieter but not an cooler.
So I just crash there and try to sleep. I don’t sleep very well at all but it
is better than nothing. So here I am today, getting very exhausted at the
littlest of tasks. So some healing prayers from across the world would be
GREAT!!!!
So that is about all for now. It
took me quite some time to write this so I will call it a day at this point.
Thanks for reading and following me!!!!!
