I’m in Cambodia.
But wait, I was just in Thailand.
Yeah, stuff changes.
God has different plans than we have for ourselves sometimes; but, I’m okay with that. My heart has changed so much from the time I received the news about heading to Cambodia until now. At first, I was so dissapointed and sad to leave my beautiful family and friends in Thailand. But God. But God. But God. A phrase I’ve learned to love. God has shown me so much here about loving the unloved, having patience with the needy, and being joyful in the chaos.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
Eating as a team.
Eating as a team usually consists of a ton of laughter and possibly an argument about how a fruit can’t be considered a sport because it doesn’t have a team. You could probably say that our meal conversations aren’t the most intellectual, but they definitley are a ton of fun. I love the people God has placed me with this month.
Playing soccer at 4:15 everyday.
Playing soccer at 4:15 everyday has been the highlight of my time here! We play from 4:15 until the sun goes down and we can no longer see the ball. The joy from playing, and seeing the love for the game has been such an amazing thing to be a part of. The field we play on is just a little dirt patch behind the orphanage with a couple of steel goals that are held together by either old soccer socks, or some rope from torn fishing nets. Since it’s rainy season, there are mud holes in the field that make the experience just a little better. I mean, what’s better that the ball rolling through the “mud” under the chicken hut and then getting hit in the face with the ball and having your eye get clogged up with chicken poop. Sorry Jake Crawford, sometimes life is rough.
Good news! I started a fundraising campaign to build a real soccer field in the front of the orphange about a week ago and all of the money came in! A huge thank you to all of the generous donors! God bless you guys, the field will be used to spread the kingdom. So before we leave here we should have the field built and ready to use! Yay for no more crappy situations! God has been so faithful in everything.
Late night stargazing.
Late night stargazing is definitely a relative term, as late to me is around seven in the evening. It gets so dark here because the electrical grid barely works and we’re in the country side where things like city lights and street lamps don’t pollute God’s amazing light in the sky. A handful of us usually sit out on the front steps of the orphanage and just talk and look and God’s amazing creation. I cherish my time here so much. It has been such a sweet month full of love and joy.
Life is good, Cambodia is great, and my God is amazing.
