Imagine ancient temples as old as 600+ years that were built by hand. Sculpted beautifully with sweat, blood and devout devotion.

Imagine modern temples made of many colorful jewels and shining in layers of mosaic gold when the sun beams down with artistic patterns encompassing the inside walls – including the ceilings.

What a state of awe I was in upon taking my first steps into a buddhist temple.

Standing before me as I stepped barefooted over the temple threshold was a giant false idol surrounded by mini shiny replicas. Taking it all in, my initial thought was just one in awe of the beauty around me. That moment lasted all of about 12 seconds. Then it hit me…

…heartbreak.

While I stood ignorantly taking in the beauty of the temple, I ceased to recognize the people bowing before me on their knees. These beautiful people were in this beautiful temple worshipping a god that simply doesn’t exist. This god doesn’t hear their prayers, see their devotion, accept their gifts, or even breathe.

As God began and is beginning to break my heart for what breaks His, I’m learning that it’s extremely difficult to look at people and the world around me through His eyes instead of my worldly ones. Where judgement and condemnation come so easily to our fleshly attitudes, heartbreak and compassion are difficult to embrace.

As you watch the news, read online stories, and even walk down your own street, ask God to show you what really matters! Is it people’s mistakes-ignorant or intentional? Or is it their lost souls and forever eternity?

**Disclaimer: Seeing through God’s eyes may cause you to step into compassionate action due to the beautiful heartbreak He reveals about your family, neighbors, or even your enemies.
