Sometimes I feel like what I’m doing is meaningless.

When I leave a place people will still be poor. They will still have incurable diseases. Children will still not have parents and marriages will still be broken.

In those moments of doubt I have to remember that it’s not my job to fix the world. I physically can’t give a homeless child loving parents, or mend a relationship between a husband and wife back together. As a Christian, my job is to point these people to Christ, the one who can and will take away the pain and suffering from all lose who are lost.

If I give a homeless man a meal for lunch, he will just be hungry in the next two hours or so. I can however give him the message thats all about eternal satisfaction and fullness. This is what will bring his life the most meaning and happiness. I’m not saying that I shouldn’t feed this man because he does need food to survive, but what’s more important is that his soul is filled up before his stomach.

I’ve seen Christians with very little praise the Lord and thank him for everything he has done and will do for them. I’ve also seen wealthy people constantly searching for the next thing to bring them happiness just to end up searching for something more.

I think we all wish we could physically do more and give more to people who are hurting. Ultimately the best thing we can give them is the message that the creator of the heavens and the earth loves them so abundantly and wants to have a relationship with them so badly, that he sent his son to die on the cross, to defeat death for us all, and give us eternal life.
