This past Saturday I was asked to help watch our host’s kids during their church’s Easter egg hunt. Afterwards the kids attended workshops that walked you through the death of Jesus and his resurrection. I thought I took the time to appreciate and thank God for what he had done, but I was wrong, I hadn’t even scratched the surface.

This workshop was just as important for me and all the other parents to go to as it was for the children. What Jesus did wasn’t complicated nor was it hard to see that he really was the Son of God. What it was, was real sincere deep love and it hit me harder than I thought it could’ve.

The picture above is from one of the workshops where a Roman officer describes Jesus’ death. After depicting what it looked like for Jesus to be hung on the cross and the pain that came with it. He had the kids each take a turn, pounding the stakes into the wood, saying, “this is what we did to our Lord and Savior on Good Friday”. Every time I heard a thunk, I imagined Jesus crying out in pain, wondering why God had foresaken him. What a way to start your day. He talks to these kids as if they were twenty or thirty years old, sparing them the typical run-through of a sterilized, non-emotional Easter. Thank you sir.

After that experience, I’ve been forever more grateful for the blood of Jesus Christ. Can’t wait to see those holes in his hands when I get to Heaven.
