For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bring upon them swift destruction. Did you notice the pattern? Every book in the new testament talks about suffering. Whether it is denying ourselves, choosing between what God wants and what we want, the suffering we will endure, or what will come, or even examples of what Paul suffered during his life. The bible is filled with all types of suffering. Whether it’s physically, emotionally, or spiritually, its obvious that these verses and Jesus’ own words show us that we are going to suffer if we are truly seeking to follow Him.

So with that being said, Is suffering optional?
