Let’s get this party started!
I am so excited about our upcoming adventure in July!  What an incredible chance to grow as a Christian, while being a part of a ministry that changes so many lives.  I feel so blessed to have the opportunity both to serve God and to build lasting relationships, all while taking a year off from work!

I have to admit, once I found out I had been accepted, I had many conflicting emotions. The overwhelming ones were excitement and gratitude.  But I wouldn’t be completely honest if I didn’t admit that I was also a little nervous and sad about the year I would miss with my family.  I have three young nieces under 19 months old, with another on the way!  Spending time with them recently made me realize how fast they are developing and made me sad how much I am going to miss while I’m away.  However, in Sunday school this week the Lord strongly encouraged me from Phil. 3:8.  Paul says, “I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ.”  I take comfort in the fact that this adventure is not only God’s will for my life but is also an answer to my prayers.  I believe wholeheartedly that, throughout this upcoming year, I will not only become a better person and stronger Christian, but also an uncle, son, brother, and friend with more to offer than I currently have.

My prayer going into this trip is one of my favorite childhood choir songs: Change my heart oh God, make it ever new. Change my heart oh God may I be like you. You are the potter and I am the clay, mold me and make me this is what I pray…

I can’t wait to meet my fellow racers in May! You are all in my prayers.  We are going to have an amazing year!  Hurry up July!
