Helo from Dubai,After 24 hrs no sleep and about 7 hrs running around the air port to
get visas, reschedule flight tickets etc (we fly to Cairo on the 25th)
We found a very nice hotel, the Sochi Hotel (www.sochihtel.com ) the staff are very
freindly and helpfull.
Dubai is a very new and rapidly expanding place, 20% of all construction cranes
operating in the world are to be found in Dubai. We whent for a walk to find the
Egyptian embacey, and came across a desert fort that has been restored and is used
to house the Dubai museum. the display is very impresive . the rest of the day was
spent drawining at a coffee shop that is an old arabian style house that has been
renovated and i got to meet many people. i was blessed with a taxi ride to a mall
(thank you madam) where a strolled about meeting many more people, mostly
shop staff ,waiters and the head of security9of the mall)
well the next day we had to make a choice, stay two nights in the hotel or stay one night
at the hotel, go on adesert safari and sleep anight at the airport.
yip you guest it, we had the desert safari.
firstly we went on a crazy dune bashing ride in a luxurious high tech landcruiser, i tell you it was
like doing airobatics ! We then did some sand boarding, more dune bashing and then we went to a
desert camp were we were treated to camel rides, desert sun set, arabian coffee (smaak soos kameel
pie pie, nou nie dat ek weet hou dit eintlik smaak nie) there was a hena artist, arabaian clouthes
a big barbeque (braai vlies) and then the funny bit…. belly dancing ..we all had to join in. it was
very easy to see where the South Africans were sitting. then it was bak to the Hotel.
The next morning me went for a bus ride around town and to the beach. I then headed off to the airport
where i stayed for the day and evening, drawing at the Irish pub, me met many people, some Holanders
who work on dredge ships,a Kenyan and a group of american fire fighters who had spent a year in Iraq
helping the comunity with medical services. thanks guys for the financial suport you gave me, and ‘Pops’
thank you for beeing an encouragement to many.
