This month is an all squad month, meaning all 24 of us have been living together in Thailand! Instead of being assigned specific ministries this month, we were able to pray over what ministry would look like for each of us. Some people partnered with the Adventure’s in Missions base here, serving at the hostel they run and learning what it looks like to do business as missions. Others spent every morning in prayer asking the Lord what they should do each day.
Five friends and I had the privilege of serving at an orphanage for children with disabilities. Our days were long, but our hearts were so full. I could spend hours telling you stories of the precious children here, but there’s one story that holds a special place in my heart.
Timothy is five years old and has Down Syndrome. He’s hysterical, rebellious, and sweet as can be. When he and his twin brother were born, their family didn’t have the knowledge or financial means to provide for them. Due to medical complications, his twin passed away and Timothy was taken into care. Hope Home provided him with a loving and safe environment to grow up in, while also sending him to a school that would cater to his needs.
In August 2017, Timothy was dropped off at school for what his caretakers thought would be a regular day. We don’t know exactly what happened next, but he was later found on the concrete outside after falling from the second story window. Different teachers have different stories and ultimately we are unsure if he fell or was pushed out of the window, but we do know that God is SO good. You see, Timothy should have been dead. He fell from about 12 feet up and landed flat on his back. His poor head was split open, and he had to get a metal plate put in. The doctors were shocked and don’t know how his little body survived that fall. It was definitely God.
If you met Timothy today, only 8 months after the incident, you wouldn’t know anything happened. Besides the scar that goes all the way down his head, he’s a normal, wild, and funny little boy who loves to take risks. He’s smart, cuddly, and has the sweetest smile you’d ever see.
At Hope Home they call Timothy their “miracle boy”. They are thankful that God had bigger plans for Timothy and that they can use his story as a testimony of God’s goodness. We serve a great God. The ultimate physician. God is still in the miracle making business and it’s been so cool to see His miracles first hand all over the world.
Joyfully His,
Lizzy Bodkin
