Month five in Ghana has brought some changes- new teams, new ministry, and stepping more into who God is calling me to be! This month has turned into an all squad month and we have partnered with Elim City church in the city of Sunyani. Our main ministry has been street evangelism- which has basically been the church dropping us off at different locations throughout the city, walking through and meeting with people, spending time with them, praying over them, sharing Jesus, and inviting them to church. This has allowed us many unique experiences from befriending a lonely widow, praying with Muslims, joining in a game of kickball, streetside Bible lessons, shopping from street vendors, and even just walking into schools.
I’ve found myself enjoying theses experiences more than I thought I would. To be honest, street evangelism sounded intimidating. Additionally, when coming together as a new team, we quickly became aware that we were all on the quieter side. We even joked that as a team of introverts, we were “silent but deadly”.
Over the last four months, my former team affirmed my voice over and over again and encouraged me to speak up when I knew the Holy Spirit was prompting me. I am thankful for their persistant encouragement and affirmation and saw steady growth each month. This month has been a continued platform to listen to Spirit and be obedient to however He is leading. And suprise! We just found out that we have an extra two and a half weeks in Ghana continuing the same ministry before we head to our next country, Burkina Faso. Next month is scheduled to be an ATL (ask the Lord) month, meaning that each team will not be assigned a particular ministry or host. Instead, each team will spend time asking and listening to the Lord, and seeking however He leads.
I am particulary excited about this phase in the race because scripture teaches as we are obedient and faithful to the things we are given now, He increases what he entrusts to us. In the parable of the talents, to the servants who were faithful to what was given to them, the master said “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:21 &23)
Over the last few months, and this month especially, I’ve had opportunities to be obedient to the Spirit’s promptings whether it be to pray over someone, share a word, or teach a Bible lesson. I’m finding that the more I listen and act on His promptings, the more I’m recieving from Him. I’m learning to recognize His voice sooner and I’m getting to that place where I just know better to trust Him. And yea, there’s joy- because we were made to know and connect with the Father.
Africa has been a change of pace in the race. In comparison, I would describe South America as the honeymoon stage; I feel like the real race started last month! Haha. I’m thankful for the gradual progression. Yet somehow these last two months are easily becoming my favorites so far and I’m looking forward to take in all that He has here!
“How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.” Psalm 36:7-9
