I
prayed….
for
an understanding of God’s Word and not just head knowledge
I
prayed….
for
His Word to come alive to me
I
prayed….
for
more of a desire to be in His Word
HE
ANSWERED THOSE PRAYERS!
Towards
the end of our time in Tanzania, I had a conversation with Bill Swan,
one of the team leaders, about holiness that sparked an interest in
me.
Holiness
is one of those ambiguous words in the Bible. One you hear a ton in
church, but can’t really put a finger on what it means besides the
fact that GOD IS HOLY
and being His daughter, He sees me as holy.
I
let this word, “holiness,
roll around in my head for a while, simmer in the pot, if you will.
Then one day, about 2 weeks ago, I decided to look up a few verses on
the matter. This led me to 2 Corinthians 7:1, “Since we have these
promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of
body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.
Basically saying to rid yourselves of everything unclean, everything
impure, everything not of Christ. Well, this verse definitely opened
a can of worms for me.
What
does this look like?
How
do you live a holy lifestyle without crossing the line of legalism?
Where
does freedom come in?
These
are the questions that flooded my head after I read the above
passage. Luckily, I wasn’t alone in this sea of questions… I pulled
3 people into with me. We have had many conversations on the topic,
which led to more Scripture and more questions.
Then
the book of Romans entered the picture. Oh, Romans.
(stay
tuned for part 2)
