Last
time you heard from me, I was working at Stepping Stones Educational
Therapy Center with special needs kiddos.

This
was an incredible job.

I
worked under one of the most incredible teachers, who became one of
my good friends.

I
worked with the most precious kids in the world… even though there
were plenty of times they weren’t being precious.

I
worked along side 2 other assistants that loved the Lord and brought
joy into our classroom.

I
had a lot of fun with this job.

Learned
a ton.

Laughed
a lot.

Let’s
be honest, if you know me, you know I goofed off as much as
possible…

…keeping
it professional, of course.

But
unfortunately, the job ended for me at the end of May as I moved to
Buckhead to work for Peachtree Presbyterian Church as the intern for
their college ministry.

My
job is to listen, encourage, challenge, and love on college
students…

sounds
a little bit like squad leading on the world race

and
it is…

…except
stateside and with a younger generation.

This
summer we are teaching the students how to read the Bible as a whole.
For example, the Old Testament law, Gospels, the Prophets, etc…
teaching it in chunks so as to help them see the big picture.

As
an intern, I am responsible for teaching at least 3 times this
summer— SUPER FUN!

I
was a leader for Rutledge, a high school camp with the college
students as counselor. This week was pivotal for my ministry.
Throughout the week I began building relationships with the college
girls. I listened to their stories. Encouraged them in their walk.
Helped them deal with some hard situations they are faced with.

(note- I am not in this photo- I had to leave early- but I swear I was there)

Due
to the relationships that were formed at Rutledge, I have been able
to continue investing in their lives. I’m pretty sure I hang out with
these students more than I hang out with people my own age… and I
am totally okay with that. These students are remarkable. Just like I
get to encourage and challenge them, they are doing the same for me.

The
last main hoorah of the summer is a mission trip to Liberia, West
Africa. Since I went on the World Race, 11 month, 11 country mission
trip, I figured I’d stick with that number…

This
trip is an 11 person (3 of whom are girls), 11 day mission trip. We
will work with Younglife Liberia for a few days in Monrovia, the
capital, before leaving for Balama. In Balama, we will be doing
recreational ministry, working in school and helping out with the
Balama Development Project. Through this project, we will be
surveying entrepreneurs who are participating in the micro finance
program and offer feedback on how to better the program based on the
principles in the book, When Helping Hurts.

I recommend this book to EVERYONE!

Once
I get back from Liberia, I will only have one week left of the
internship before going on to the next thing….

GRADUATE
SCHOOL…

(more
on that in the next blog.)
