Since I was young I have always had a passion for travel, adventure, languages, and people. I remember being in second grade running off to after school French class and promising my mother I would make it to the Eiffel Tower one day. I have had so many amazing experiences abroad – some which have changed me permanently.
When I was in college I decided I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. I decided to go into the profession of teaching. I loved languages and wanted to share this idea of global aide by teaching students to be open minded and to enable them to communicate with each other. I believe that communication is key to building relationships- the first step in fixing some of our deepest problems. I enjoy teaching, but these past few years God has shown me that he desires me to take my skills elsewhere.
If you know me, you know that I’ve been talking for awhile about going out into the world and making a different kind of difference than I was teaching. I realize now that becoming a teacher was God’s path for me to find this new opportunity of being a part of the World Race. Once again, his careful timing and placement of people presented me with the opportunity to go around the world and make a difference.
What I loved about the World Race, when I heard about it is that this isn’t just an opportunity for me. What made the World Race stand out from other jobs is that it allows others who can’t pick up and leave to be a part of this vision, and change in the world. If you envision a world where the poor and the downtrodden are having their needs met, if you envision a world where God’s love is being spread, but you’ve been unable to find an opportunity to get involved – this is also your opportunity.
I picked the World Race because I didn’t want to take on this challenge by myself, I wanted to gather around me a multitude of people who also share the same vision, dreams, and hope for this world that I have. I chose the World Race because it allows me to be a vehicle for the change I know so many people want to be a part of.
So this is what I am choosing to dedicate my life to in the months leading up to and while I am on the World Race – being your vehicle for change and good works in this world.
