We’re officially at final debrief and I’ll be flying back to Chicago on Friday! Only 5 days away. Here are 5 foods I would recommend trying in your travels if you ever get the opportunity. P.S. I really wanted to put pictures of the food with these but our WiFi here is not so great and they’re not uploading- my appologies.

1. When in Eastern Europe stop at the pastry shop and try some börek. It’s filo dough and cheese and it’s delicious. Serbians drink yogurt with it- I did not. But add a little jam and you’ll have the best breakfast ever.

2. Thailand is known for its cuisine especially at the night markets where food is cheap and fresh. Save room for dessert and grab some mango sticky rice. I couldn’t eat it every day, but it’s definitely worth tasting.

3. This one is not technically a food. I gave up coffee on the Race, but in Myanmar I still got to wake up to a hot beverage. Myanmar milk tea is delicious, it comes in cheap stir in packets and it hits the spot on a cold morning.

4. African cuisine is simple yet tasty. In Zimbabwe we ate lots of pap – sort of like grits, which by itself isn’t really that special. Add some goat roasted over a fire all  day, pumpkin leaves chopped and sautéed with oil and salt, and a delicious sauce however, and you‘ve got a really good traditional African meal.

5. Fried Chicken is all over the world. I’m pretty sure I had it in almost every country, but the Haitians do it really well. Fried chicken with rice and beans, smashed and fried plantains and a hot sauce coleslaw called pikliz is a tradition there. We got it once a week in Haiti and it was hands down our favorite meal.
