The other day we weren’t doing much in the afternoon, so one of our friends here took us to this rock pool close by Teen Challenge, where we have been working this month. We were all excited to go. Its really hot here so we were pretty pumped about going swimming. We got to the rock pool and we started jumping in. It was probably a 5 or 6 foot drop at the most. The water was a little mossy, but it was good. We swam and just had a great time. The view was absolutely beautiful. Its the best I’ve seen all month.
When we were about to go home, Sam decided he wanted to take us home a different way. Little did we know that a different way home would include ducking thorn bushes, jumping over holes and ditches, sliding down rocks, and just all together craziness. We ended up climbing this hill/mountain. I wouldn’t call it an actual mountain, but it was a pretty large hill. At first I was not happy at all. I was wearing toms, not the best hiking shoes ever, and I just wanted to go eat dinner. I was frustrated the entire way up, just asking God why in the world we had to do this today. At one point we were crossing this pretty narrow area with a lot of thorns and the rocks under me gave away. Good thing Tommy was there to grab my hand and keep me from falling.
Then we reached the top. It was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. On one side it looked like parts of Africa…green and trees everywhere, and on the other side it looked like the desert…rocks and dirt cliffs. It was amazing. I saw God in that view. I love being at the highest point in an area and being able to see everything. That is when I feel close to God, through seeing his creation. There is nothing else like it. There is no one else like him.
On the way home we were all pretty happy. Who wouldn’t be after seeing a view like that. It was a great day and God definitely gave us a little present that we all needed.
This wasn’t the view from the mountain we climbed, but it is the view we had every night while we ate dinner. I thought it was a pretty good one…worthy of sharing.
