While I was worshiping one morning in THOP (Tauranga House of Prayer), I got a few words and an image for a man that was sitting 2 rows behind me. These words were “Wise Teacher”, one that was called to help lead the men of this next generation. So I spent the next 30 minutes wrestling whether or not I wanted to tell him this. I knew I needed to, but was hesitant. I was comfortable telling my teammates, but a stranger was another situation.
I finally obeyed and went over to him. I told him what I heard and saw and I sat there a little unsure of what would come next. I was surprised to see him begin to cry. I then began to pray against any fears or doubts he may have of it not being true. I felt that he believed that his past was too broken for God to use him. I spoke truth to him again and how this generation needs him to lead us. He then went into a time of processing this information, and entered into another time of doubt and fear. I told of truths again and he entered into another time of reflection. Yet this time, instead of fear and doubt he entered a time of acceptance no matter how scary it may be, how uncertain it will be or how is past once was.
We both prayed together and then I left him with a few people from the bible. Nehemiah, Esther, David and Moses. How God chose them, ordinary people for extraordinary things.
He came up to me later and said that he was recently offered position in the church to disciple and teach some teenage men in the church and that he had been declining it for some time now. And now he is ready to say yes, not knowing what is ahead of him.
Then two mornings later, he came up to me again and shared with me that he went on a bike ride with his pastor and was offered and even higher position to lead even more men in their journey with Christ. He shared that normally he would say no, but that he said yes. He did say that he was scared, but said yes to whatever lay ahead. I celebrated with him in saying yes and left him with the verse Joshua 1:9.
