Our last Sunday here we spent with the children. We got up early from going to bed around 3am (that was when the Fellowship from the previous night ended). Knowing that we were all exhausted from the night before and the lack of sleep, we were praying for something to help get us going that morning. Also, we as a team, have been praying for the next generation of the church here. 90% of the attending church members have gray hair. If there is not anyone from the next generation ready to step up and take ownership of the church, it will die here. So this has been a HUGE need and prayer here.
So we begin to gather the children on Sunday morning. We literally have to walk and drive to each of their homes and encourage them to come. We had a little over 20 kids come! We sat down and shared our names, ages and what we like to do for fun. We then sang a song and then the Sunday School Teacher did a review of the lessons they had done from the previous year. Then we talked about the story of Joseph.
Right before the kids were allowed to color their activity books, we took communion. This was so beautiful. David was asked to describe each of the elements and the meaning of them and the children gazed with total amazement, understanding, and an eagerness to need to learn more.
I left that morning fully energized, encouraged and excited. These children are the next generation and they have a great leader teaching and guiding them. These children understand and know their Savior. I smile knowing one day these are the next leaders of the church and that God will continue to do amazing things through them and with them.
