I was driving today and I was looking at the setting sun between the rain clouds and I had a mini-revelation about two schools of thought that seem to be at each other’s throats all the time in the church.

One side is all about grace. Nothing you do matters because you are saved by the blood of Jesus. Period.

The other side is very “but faith without works is dead”. God cannot tolerate sin because He is holy. Down with all you abominations. Rawr.

I don't know the theological terms for these two sides and you can probably see which side I tend to lean towards. Anyway what I decided in my mini-revelation was that it is so important for us to know more fully the weight of our sin against God’s holiness so that we can better understand how absolutely reckless and crazy God’s grace is. When we have a more complete understanding of how huge the chasm that God’s grace covered for us we cannot help but to respond.

That response is called worship.

Live in it.
