I guess that’s what if you want to call it, even after you see countless foreign men buying women for their pleasure. They aren’t thinking about who they are hurting, they just want to what they want to do and not care about the girl they are with or her family.
Young girls, starting at 12, are sold into sex trafficking by their family in order to pay off their debt, buy a house or drive a better car. The families rely on their children to support them. How twisted is that?
Men from all over the world come to places like Pattaya or Bangkok to buy women for the night or for the week. They are leaving their families for a “business trip” and going to the Red Light Districts to drink, smoke and have sex.
Some of the squad were able to work in bar ministries, some in a coffee shop that helps women get jobs instead of being a prostitute, and some working with the kids who are rescued before they are sold. My team had the privilege to work with those kids.
This organization in Thailand is amazing! The story is that one American man had a vision of a girl who was sold in the sex trafficking business. After awhile of searching in Cambodia, he found her and adopted her as his own daughter. The girl didn’t want what happened to her happen to anyone else so they started organization to help the girls and boys in the area to live in community, get an education and find good jobs that will support their families. So instead of immediately being sold in the sex trafficking business to get quick cash, they spend a few extra years to go to school and get a job that can support them and their families’ long term.
We had the privilege to hang out with the kids and eat with them. They are so intelligent and musically talented. They have hope for their futures instead of living in the bars being bought by foreign men.
So this was my life in Thailand. We did so many “touristy” things too but this was the most impactful experience!
