Soo…. we made it to INDONESIA! Yay! Let me tell you getting to our hostel thing was INTERESANTE. We landed, got a Grab (which is basically an Uber) and drove what was supposed to be a 20 minute drive for 2 and a half hours! We were totally lost. Our driver was falling asleep in traffic, everyone was honking, he kept asking us questions in Indonesian and we just had to smile and nod in confusion. At one point I was out on the side of the road trying to show a random man where we were supposed to be at. The driver was really sweet though, but we were all very confused and frustrated. Finally he drops us off at what we think is the right place. We get out and we are all jumping for joy. We hug, laugh, high five, pay and wave goodbye. All to find out we are at THE WRONG PLACE!!!! Turns out OYO is just a common name for hotel in Indonesia…We then proceed to walk about a mile with all our stuff and one of my other teammates packs all weighing around 100 pounds lol trying to find this mystery place. FINALLY WE MADE IT!!! We get there and the key breaks in the door for my friend Christine, finally they help we get inside to find poop stains, sweat stains and every other kind of stain on the sheets and bed. THEN Christine opens the closet and the DOOR BREAKS OFF THE HENGES. I am not lying y’all.
We then lay down finally and go to sleep after much laughter in disbelief. Then we are woken up at 2AM to a man banging on our door, messing with the door handle, trying to get in and yelling at us in another language. We shoot up and lean against the door and yell at him to go away. Finally he did. We crawled back into bed, I started praying because I was a little freaked out, and we woke up the next day to my side of the bed covered in water from the AC dripping. You see why I said INTERESANTE?? lol. In the midst of it all God was there and protecting us and for that I am grateful. I also know He is with us in every step that we take.
This month we are doing Ask The Lord again. Meaning we pray and ask the Lord where He would like us to go and what we should do. Then we allow Holy Spirit to lead us to where He wants us to go for the month. He has led us to work with a school that teaches children who are in the hospital. Thankfully God opened that door and is guiding us to what His heart is for Indonesia. Through the ups and downs God is still good and He is still faithful.
Just know that even when things look messy, chaotic and stressful God is still good. When things go perfectly God is still good. His goodness isn’t dependent upon your circumstance. In everything from the littlest thing to the biggest thing He is growing you more and more into His image. He’s always teaching we just have to open our eyes and ears. So take a breath and realize He is working all things together for your good. Also, check reviews before you book some place to stay okuurrtttt.
