After a few flights and a bus ride that was supposed to be 10 hours that ended up being 22 hours we made it to the village we are doing ministry at in Cote Diviore. The bus ride was full of goats and chickens, a brake that caught on fire followed by an evacuation, two tires that popped and a bunch of Yelling in French. (That’s the local language here. That and a village language)
Even though we didn’t arrive to the village until midnight we were greeted with drums and handshakes (handshakes are a big thing in this culture) from all the locals!
They are so kind and welcoming here. In another blog I’ll tell you a bit more about the culture here.
But where we are staying has no running water, no WiFi, we use the bathroom in a hole, it’s like 100 degrees, we can only wear skirts to our ankles which I only brought one lol and it ripped yesterday and I’ve been sleeping in a shared tent. At first I’m not gonna lie I had a super bad attitude and was not liking this at all. But then I thought what I think is “sacrifice” is just their normal everyday lives and they are the most content people I’ve ever met. All of my securities have been totally stripped away and I’m left at my weakest state. But in my weakest God is strongest. We have been doing a lot of preaching and door to door evangelism which has pushed me out of my comfort zone. When someone just looks at you and says “ok you’re going to share now” on the spot, you can’t afford to not be ready. I’m learning a lot about God and myself from these incredible people. They truly are so kind and give their everything to God. In church on Sunday (a 5 hour service lol) I saw a lady bring a thing of bananas to the offering. Which brought me to tears because that’s truly all she had. They walk miles to church, they get up and pray at 4 everyday, and they cater their life around the kingdom of god. I’m convicted to give so much more to God than I do just
By watching the lives of these people. They’re the real missionaries to me. It’s been the hardest but most rewarding time so far. Also I’m learning a lot of French ya girl is about to be bilingual!
